Homemade Chicken Shawarma with Restaurant-Style Marinade

Chicken strips marinated in a shawarma spice blend, cooked until done, then wrapped in flatbread with garlic sauce, pickles and fresh vegetables.

المقادير
  

  • 700 g chicken breast, sliced
  • 1 small container of yogurt
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon shawarma spice blend (mixed spices)
  • Crushed garlic, salt and pepper
  • Oil
  • Saj bread or shawarma flatbread
  • For the sauce: garlic + mayonnaise + lemon
  • Lettuce, tomatoes and pickles

Method
 

  1. Marinate the chicken strips with the yogurt, lemon, shawarma blend, garlic, salt, pepper and oil, then let rest for at least an hour.
  2. Heat a skillet over high heat and sear the chicken until cooked through and golden, caramelized edges form.
  3. Slice the chicken into thin strips.
  4. Make the garlic sauce by mixing the mayonnaise, garlic and lemon.
  5. Warm the bread, spread on the garlic sauce, then add the chicken, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles.
  6. Roll the shawarma up tightly; you can toast it lightly in the pan before serving.

ملاحظات

Marinating the chicken long enough gives it tenderness and flavor.
High heat creates the caramelized edges that define a good shawarma.
Rolling the shawarma tightly and toasting it gives it that restaurant-style texture.
